Performing Arts

The Music Department at Abbot’s Hill is a fundamental part of school life. There are numerous opportunities for pupils to get involved in Music. In Year 3 girls are given the opportunity to try a range of instruments during our ‘Music Roundabout’. Instrumental groups in the Prep School include a Flute Choir and Brass Ensemble. The St Nick’s Singers is open to girls in Years 5 and 6 and Songbirds for those in Years 3 and 4.

Vocal and instrumental tuition is given by our strong team of visiting teachers. Most lessons take place during curriculum time and rotate through the timetable. As far as possible, we attempt to make sure that the same subject is missed not more than once each half of term.

Drama is taught within the curriculum from Year 1 onwards and plays a large role in the life of the school. In the Prep School, there is an annual drama performance which involves all pupils from Years 3-6. We also invite companies in to school to give regular workshops and performances and pupils have the opportunity to visit the theatre both locally and in the West End. We offer a further opportunity to develop the girls skills, working towards an Artsmark ‘Arts Award’, which inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it’s creative, valuable and accessible. The Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four qualifications and an introductory award.
