Welcome to Abbot’s Hill School

Abbot’s Hill is a school with a unique personality. Founded over 100 years ago to educate young women of character, the school remains unashamedly a school for girls, now with a thriving co-educational Nursery. More than this, we are a school that placesgreat value on the development of the individual. Those children lucky enough to come here will leave as confident, compassionate and creative young people.

Pupils in this area are spoilt for choice when it comes to schools. So why should you and your child choose Abbot’s Hill for the next stage of their education? Let me turn that question on its head: what would you wish for those who step out of these doors having benefited from all that this school has to offer?

That they leave here happy, self-assured and comfortable in their own skin. Happy pupils learn best. It is as simple as that. I challenge you to find a school that knows and cares more about the young people in its care. This, for me, is the stand out quality of this school. In rapidly changing times, it has rarely been a more exciting time to be a young person. However – in some ways – it has never been tougher. We work in partnership with our parents to know, understand and support your child so that they can achieve their very best.

That your child is at the centre of their learning, benefitting from a broad and relevant curriculum built upon expert teaching and tailored learning opportunities. This is a school with ambition for all its pupils. Pupils leave here with an excellent foundation on which to build their futures. It may sound a long way away from your child but, as educators, we have to be alive to the demands of the workplace which is dynamic, flexible and global. In that space, excellence is measured by so much more than just examination results: conscience, resilience and adaptability matter absolutely and you will see those qualities woven through the school. Your child will learn alongside expert practitioners, collaborate within the school and beyond, innovate and be active members of the local community. These are ways of working that will matter in the workplaces your child will enter. We will nurture these dispositions as they discovers their own particular talents.

That on leaving the school they become a proud member of a community of alumnae that extends far beyond these gates. In coming here, she will join like-minded people  who will, as graduates, care for future Abbot’s Hill generations long after they have left. I am lucky enough to know first-hand the benefit of active professional networks and mentor alumnae from the school where my journey began. Your child will feel the benefit of this network both during their time as a pupil and in the years ahead and will, I’m sure, be keen to give back to their community.

That they grew up able to run free and explore – whether metaphorically in the pages of a great book, in amazement in a science lab or laughing and playing in our wonderful grounds. Opportunities for all are many and various. From the sports field to the annual school production; through the leadership opportunities and academic enrichment programmes; whether working with our partner schools in the local community or helping with the babies in our in-house nursery, Abbot’s Hill really does offer something for everyone. In stunning, green surroundings, pupils can take part, take risks, experiment and explore. Finding out who you are has never been so much fun.

There is so much more that can be said about this wonderful school. That Abbot’s Hill educates charming, grounded young people of character and integrity is not in question and nor will it change. They will all be encouraged to aim high and to fulfil their potential.
