Pastoral Care
Looking After Your Child
Pastoral care at Abbot’s Hill isn’t something we add on — it is woven into everything we do, every day. From the moment your child walks through our doors, we see them as the wonderfully unique individual they are, and we make it our mission to ensure they feel safe, known, and completely at home.
Our Pre-Prep educates children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 — ages 4 to 7 — with a dedicated class teacher, and a maximum class size of 12 pupils. Small classes mean our staff genuinely know every child: their learning style, their friendships, their worries, and what makes them light up. That knowledge shapes everything — how we teach, how we communicate with families, and how we support each child through every step of their Pre-Prep journey.

Building Confidence and Character

Our staff lead by example every day, modelling kindness, empathy and generosity of spirit. Through these daily interactions — learning to share in Reception, building new friendships in Year 1, beginning to understand the wider world in Year 2 — children develop the emotional resilience, communication skills and self-belief that will support them throughout their lives.
Our five school values — Kind, Ourselves, Involved, Curious and Challengers — are introduced from Reception onwards and are woven into the rhythm of Pre-Prep life. We take every opportunity to recognise children’s efforts and achievements, because we know how powerful it is when a child feels genuinely seen and appreciated. Praise here isn’t token — it is specific, sincere, and it works.
