Bonjour, Hola, Hallo… Hello!
Today we celebrate European Day of Languages!
What better way to celebrate than hearing some of the wonderful languages spoken across our school community? From a simple “hello” in different languages to our fabulous Year 1 children singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in French.
We love celebrating the joy of languages and the wonderful cultures they open up to us. Learning a new language can start with just one little word… Bonjour!

With 40 exhibitors, including Sixth Forms, colleges, universities and employers, the Sports Hall was buzzing with conversations about future pathways and opportunities.

An Unforgettable Blood Brothers Experience for Our GCSE Drama Students.
What an incredible day for our GCSE Drama students! We were privileged to welcome professional actors from StagED who delivered a full-day masterclass on Blood Brothers. Students gained valuable insight into characterisation, performance skills and rehearsal techniques from actors who have collectively performed in the West End production for over 20 years!
The excitement continued into the evening with a trip to Cambridge Arts Theatre to watch Blood Brothers live on stage. Having explored the play in depth during the workshop, students were able to fully appreciate the powerful performances, staging, and storytelling of this iconic musical.
It was an inspiring and memorable experience, giving our students a unique opportunity to learn from industry professionals and see their GCSE set text brought to life. A truly amazing day that will stay with them for years to come!

Students first visited Malton to investigate the town’s CBD through land use surveys, pedestrian counts and environmental quality surveys.
The following day, they carried out river fieldwork along the River Derwent, collecting data on river depth, width and sediment size to just to name a few techniques used..
A brilliant opportunity to put GCSE Geography skills into practice — with plenty of teamwork and fun along the way!

This half term in science, Year 2 are learning about the needs of animals for survival. This week, we focused on birds, looking closely at their features and exploring what they need to survive.
After researching British birds, we went on a birdwatching walk around the school. The children carefully observed the birds they spotted and recorded their findings on a birdwatching sheet. We were lucky enough to spot two pheasants and a red kite. These were exciting sightings because neither bird was on our bird list!
During the activity, the children learnt how to gather and record data by completing a birdwatch. They worked carefully as scientists, using their observations to identify and record the different birds around our school. It was a lovely opportunity to take our science learning outdoors and explore the wildlife on our doorstep.

At Abbot’s Hill, swimming is an important part of school life. Our pupils enjoy weekly swimming lessons from Pre-School right through to Senior School, supported by our first class teachers and excellent swimming provision.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication, determination and talent shown by our pupils, both in the pool and beyond.
We can’t wait to see what the next generation of Abbot’s Hill swimmers will achieve.
