Author and illustrator, Petr Horáček, visits Year 2

Posted: 23rd February 2021

Year 2 had a special virtual visit from esteemed children’s writer and illustrator, Petr Horáček.

Earlier in the term, the pupils had been working on Mr Horáček’s story, ‘The Lonely Penguin”. As a result, they were eager to read more of his stories in his vast collection.

During the inspirational session, Mr Horáček shared his passion for drawings and writing with the pupils. He explained his secrets to writing, including starting with a picture. He demonstrated how to draw an elephant and the girls had a go themselves producing some fantastic drawings.

The class were lucky to hear several of his fantastic picture books, including “Elephant”, “The Greedy Goat”, “The Best Place In the World” and “Blue Penguin”. The class thoroughly enjoyed all the animal stories, who each had their own very individual characters!

“I loved the story The Best Place in the World because we found out that the best place in the world is with your friends,” said Eden.

“It is cool to be creative,” commented Taylor.

At the end of the session, the pupils had a chance to ask Mr Horáček questions as they were interested to find out what it is like being a successful author and illustrator. What was clear was how much they loved the animals in his stories!

What a great start to World Book Day celebrations!
