Future Leaders Step Up – Head Pupil Hustings 2026

Group of Abbot's Hill Senior Pupils

There was a real sense of occasion in the Abbot’s Hill Theatre as a remarkable group of Year 10 students took to the stage to put themselves forward for one of the most prestigious roles in our school — Head Pupil.

The Hustings, which form a central part of our Head Pupil selection process, gave each candidate the opportunity to address their peers and staff, sharing their personal vision for leadership and making the case for why they should represent the heart of our school community.

And what a group of candidates they were.

Speech after speech reflected the very values that define life here — confidence and compassion, ambition and integrity, and a genuine, heartfelt commitment to making a positive difference. Whether they spoke about inclusion, student wellbeing, academic culture or school spirit, every candidate demonstrated a depth of thought and a maturity of character that was, quite simply, inspiring to witness.

For many, standing up and speaking in front of their peers is no small thing. The courage it takes to put yourself forward, to stand at a microphone and share your vision with honesty and conviction, should never be underestimated — and every single candidate did so with authenticity, grace and real passion.

“We could not be prouder of every student who took part,” said one member of staff. “The quality of the speeches, the thoughtfulness behind them and the confidence with which they were delivered was a genuine reminder of just how exceptional our young people are.”

The process of selecting our next Head Pupil is never an easy one — and this year’s field has made it harder than ever. Whatever the outcome, every candidate who took to that stage this week has already demonstrated the very qualities that make a truly outstanding leader.

A huge and heartfelt congratulations to all involved. You have made the whole school community enormously proud.

(Special mention to Maddie (not pictured above) who,  even though unwell at home, managed to make her speech virtually to the rest of the school.
