Abbot’s Hill Culture Day
Careers Day at AHS = a day full of inspiration, ambition and opportunity!
Yesterday, our students stepped into the world of work, meeting professionals from an incredible range of industries and discovering where their future could take them.
A huge thank you to our inspirational keynote speaker Ross Priday from Aviation Ambassadors, who captivated students with stories from his remarkable career in the RAF, flying with the Red Arrows and serving as their Chief Engineer. What a way to kick off the day!
From designing their own airline in the British Airways Challenge, to hands-on Medical Mavericks activities, interactive careers workshops, mock interviews and a university panel with former AHS students, every year group had the chance to build confidence, ask questions and explore exciting career pathways.
We’re incredibly grateful to all of our guest speakers and volunteer interviewers who generously gave their time and expertise to inspire the next generation. Your stories, advice and encouragement made a real difference.
A fantastic day filled with learning, ambition and big dreams for the future.

What a fantastic evening at our annual Art Show!
It was wonderful to celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of our students by showcasing galleries of their outstanding GCSE Art and GCSE Photography work (still top secret for now... ).
We also announced the winners of our Artist of the Year competition, with this year’s inspiring theme, “Gathering.” We received so many exceptional entries from across the school, making it an incredibly difficult task for our judges to select the winners. Congratulations to everyone who took part, you should all be so proud of your creativity and imagination.
With the sun shining, a brilliant performance from our talented Year 10 duo, face painting, and delicious food, the evening had such a wonderful atmosphere. It was fantastic to see so many members of our school community coming together to celebrate the arts.
A huge thank you to our amazing Art Department for organising one of our favourite events of the year, and to everyone who helped make the evening such a memorable success. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

History Competition Success!
A select group of our Year 7 and Year 8 students recently represented Abbot’s Hill School at a History Competition hosted by Belmont School. Competing against teams from Belmont School and Keble School, our students entered two Year 8 teams and one Year 7 team.
The girls tackled five exciting rounds, including picture quizzes, “Spot the Odd One Out” and even deciding whether the names of famous battles were real or made up!
The girls had a fantastic time, demonstrated excellent teamwork and impressed us with their historical knowledge. A special congratulations to our Year 7 team, who were the highest-placed Abbot’s Hill team, finishing in an impressive 4th place out of 9 teams!
We are so proud of all the girls for representing the school so brilliantly. Well done to everyone involved!

Year 7 & 8 students enjoyed an action-packed residential trip to the Isle of Wight, filled with exciting activities, new experiences and lasting memories.
From exploring The Needles Sand Shop, visiting a local wildlife sanctuary and discovering the history of Osborne House, to challenging themselves with activities such as abseiling, Jacob’s Ladder, archery tag and so much more, every day brought a new adventure.
The trip wasn’t just about trying new things – it was also about building confidence, overcoming challenges and strengthening friendships. It was wonderful to see students supporting one another, stepping outside their comfort zones and making memories that will last a lifetime.
A huge thank you to all of the teachers who made this incredible trip possible, and to the students who shared their wonderful memories and experiences with us.

Our Drama Department spent a brilliant day at Gaddesden Row Primary School, running a theatre workshop with Years 4, 5 and 6. The pupils got stuck into reimagining Little Red Riding Hood, writing their own scripts, playing with characters, and finding fresh ways to tell a story everyone thought they knew.
Armed with props, costumes and a green screen, they took turns as actors, directors and storytellers, building scenes together and bouncing ideas off each other. There was plenty of noise, plenty of laughs, and some genuinely surprising creative choices.
It’s always a privilege to spend time with young people who throw themselves into performance without hesitation, and a reminder of why we love doing this work.

This year’s Rising 4 and Pre-Prep Sports Day brought an exciting new feel as the event moved from the Front Lawn to the athletics track for the very first time.
A new middle-distance race was introduced, giving our young athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their stamina and determination. It was wonderful to see them rise to the challenge and give their very best.
Having our Rising 4 and Pre-Prep pupils together created a fantastic atmosphere and a real sense of progression, allowing families and staff to reflect on just how far the children have come on their journey through the school.
Stickers were awarded to those achieving 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, with ‘Well Done’ stickers presented to every participant in recognition of their effort and participation.
A huge thank you to all our staff for their support throughout the day, and especially to our PE Department for their hard work in planning and delivering such a successful event.
Well done to all our young athletes for making the day such a memorable occasion!

Our Year 10 DofE explorers have just completed their Silver DofE Qualifying Expedition – walking an incredible 58km over 3 days from Ditchling Beacon through the Sussex countryside.
From blisters, sunburn, flies, and very long days of walking to camping, cooking, route planning, and the infamous Trangia clean-up, every student showed outstanding resilience and determination throughout.
Despite the physical and mental challenges, they kept going, supported one another, and achieved something they should all be incredibly proud of.
And the best part? Everyone passed! 🎉
We couldn’t be prouder of this amazing group. A huge thank you to Matt and Lou from A-Z Instructors for all their support along the way.

Students completing the Abbot’s Hill Independent Project in Year 7 develop valuable skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond. Through researching and analysing information, thinking critically, solving problems, managing a project, and presenting their findings, students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and develop greater independence.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Abbot’s Hill Independent Project is the wide range of topics students can explore. Whether investigating scientific discoveries, social issues, technological innovations, history, the arts, or a personal interest, students have the freedom to pursue subjects that genuinely inspire them. This year’s projects covered an impressive variety of topics, from Are fast fashion brands bad for the environment? and The Cost of Living Crisis to How are giant pandas influencing China’s political relationships? and How much sleep does the average child need? The project helps students become confident, independent learners while fostering curiosity and a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
Congratulations to our Year 7 students, who have completed some wonderful projects this year. To celebrate their achievements, they were presented with certificates and enjoyed a hot chocolate together.
