Year 7 ‘Dare to be Different’

Wednesday 9 October 2019

On Thursday 3 October, eight Dare to be Different girls from Year 7 gave an assembly to the whole of the Prep School about their trip to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone earlier in July this year.

‘Dare to be Different’ is an organisation set up by ex-racing driver Susie Wolf, to encourage girls to look into careers in all aspects of Motorsport, from journalism and TV to racing and engineering.

The girls had a great time experiencing a ride in a Porsche, a talk by Natalie McGloin (a disabled racing driver), a pit stop wheel change challenge, training like racing driver on the Batak wall, a first aid session with a track doctor, presenting to camera with F1 presenter Rosanna Tennant and making a hovercraft in the STEM challenge. They also met Susie Wolf and Williams Formula 1 development driver Tatiana Calderon. They had a fantastic day and all of them received special t-shirts from the event.

The girls wrote a script and produced a presentation between them with help from Mrs Baker.
