On Wednesday 13 November, Year 4 visited the British Schools Museum in Hitchin. They travelled back to 1880 and became Victorian school girls, wearing a white apron to protect their clothes.
They spent an hour in the Gallery school room, experiencing ‘The 3 Rs’ – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. They wrote in ink pen and completed sums on a slate using farthings, pennies and shillings. Some even had to wear the Dunce’s cap!
A visit to the Headmaster’s house allowed them to see how the middle class lived.
The pupils loved their day learning more about Victorian times, with the school room being a definite hit!
