On Thursday 11 May, Year 1 went to Batchworth Canal in Rickmansworth. The girls learnt about how canals were built, why they were built and what was transported on the boats.
The group had the opportunity experience life for a Victorian family living on the ‘Roger’. The girls also learnt about locks, what they do and why they are needed on the canal. They opened and closed the lock for some of the boats coming through. Afterwards, the girls went for a boat trip of their own!
Everybody had a great day and would highly recommend the upcoming festival in Rickmansworth which celebrates canals, the community and the environment.
