On Wednesday 18 September, Years 4-6 enjoyed a performance of Romeo and Juliet performed by the Young Shakespeare Company.
Many pupils knew the Shakespeare story before the play, but the classes did not study it beforehand so that the girls could help to predict what might come next. All of the pupils got involved, helping to set the scene and take on different roles as some of the characters.
Since watching the performance, the girls have been taking part in follow up work in their English lessons. Year 6 have worked on modern day newspaper accounts of the events in Romeo and Juliet. Both Years 4 and 5 have been using the play to look at story settings and character profiles.
The emotional aspect of watching the play and how the actors really got the girls believing their character has also helped to inspire their drama lessons!
