Ski Success at the Eastern Region Ski Championships

Tuesday 26 April 2016

Congratulations to our ski teams who took part in the Eastern Region Ski (ERSA) Championships at Suffolk Ski Centre, Ipswich on Sunday 24 April.

Abbot’s Hill had a slightly lower entry than normal to the ERSA Championships this year. Some of our regular racers were committed to other curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Under 12 – Aleyna, Matilda, Jemima, Rosie – 2nd place

Competing in the Year 6 age group with only one of that age in the team meant their Silver medal place was the result of a real team effort – they all performed very well on a strange, longer than they are used to, slope.  Having Hattie (Ski Captain) and Charlotte B (Abbot’s Hill Old Girl) to help with Course Inspection and race preparation was a big help; their commitment to passing on their knowledge was invaluable.

Under 14 – Emeline, Sasha, Ina, Lucy, Daisy, Amelia, Alexa

All of the girls achieved at least one good run but unfortunately, some of them made mistakes on their first run which meant no team times were recorded.  Mistakes in ski racing are costly but without risk taking nothing is achieved, and they will all learn from their experience.

Under 19 – Emily, Hattie, Anna, Rebecca R – 2nd place

A really excellent team performance, meriting their Silver medals.  As in all school competitions, our Year 11s are competing against girls up to two years older and their results are impressive.

This team has been together since their Prep School days.  They (and their parents!) have shown enormous commitment of time and effort over the years and it was good to see them all ski really well on their last team outing for Abbot’s Hill.  We look forward to seeing them racing in “new colours” in school races in the autumn!
