The Senior School academic year traditionally culminated on Saturday 9 July at our Commemoration Day.
We were delighted to welcome Zoe Jackson MBE as our guest speaker this year, who gave an inspiration talk about her successful ‘Living the Dream’ Performing Arts Company and the importance of following your dreams.
At the age of 16, Zoe set up the ‘Living the Dream’ Performing Arts Company to inspire young people and to subsidise her own performing arts education. Over the last nine years, Living the Dream has grown to include a school of performing arts, a professional dance company and a charity, the Dream Foundation. In June 2015, she was awarded Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), for services to young entrepreneurs and the performing arts. Zoe also received the first ‘Queen’s Young Leaders Award’ recognising 60 young people across the Commonwealth who are making adifference in their communities which was presented to her by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
As well as our Guest Speaker, there were speeches from Janet Mark, the Chairman of Governors, Elizabeth Thomas, Headmistress, and a report on the School year from Sharon Doyle, Deputy Head.
Guests were treated to some beautiful pieces by our talented musicians, with the Chamber Choir performing Cantique de Jean Racine, The Lily and the Rose and Joyful, Joyful. Choir Captain Jodie gave a beautiful rendition of O del Mio Dolce Ardor and Music Captain Beth performed a fantastic clarinet solo.
The day was also an opportunity for us to bid farewell to our Year 11 leavers and wish them all the best in their future studies.
