Senior School Commemoration Day

Friday 12 July 2019

On Saturday 6 July, the Senior School academic year traditionally concluded with Commemoration Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate our pupils’ achievements throughout the year, and a chance for us to bid farewell to our Year 11 leavers.

This year, we were delighted to welcome Dr Suzie Imber as our guest speaker. Suzie is a planetary scientist and was also the winner of the 2017 BBC 2 series entitled Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes? during which twelve candidates were put through astronaut training with NASA.

Suzie shared her experiences of the astronaut training, including some of the challenges which she faced. She also told the girls how, at school, she was not the greatest at science but through her passion for the subject, alongside hard work, she pursued a successful career in the field.

As well as our Guest Speaker, there were speeches from Janet Mark, the Chairman of Governors, Elizabeth Thomas, Headmistress, and a report on the School year from Sharon Doyle, Deputy Head. The Head Girl, Eliza and her Deputies, Daisy and Gaby, gave their final speech at Abbot’s Hill.

After the prizes and certificates had been awarded, families, staff and Governors enjoyed refreshments on the Front Lawn.

The day was also an opportunity for us to bid farewell to our Year 11 leavers and wish them all the best in their future studies.
