Prep School Enrichment Week

Tuesday 28 May 2019

From Monday 20 – Friday 24 May, Prep School Enrichment Week took place giving pupils the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and workshops.

On Monday, St Nicholas House Hall was transformed into a planetarium and everybody had an amazing time exploring space. Being brave in the dark, the girls had an opportunity to explore planets, star constellations and even the Milky Way! They were mesmerised by the sights they saw and learnt a great deal about outer space. Their interest developed further back in the classroom where classes have been researching space and learning more amazing facts.

On Tuesday, Years 1-4 took part in fantastic cooking workshops where the girls learnt valuable cooking skills including mixing, rolling and pouring. Year 5 spent the day enjoying the sunshine and beautiful scenery at Kew Gardens in London.

Reception – Year 5 enjoyed a visited from Falconry UK on Wednesday where the pupils were shown and met a range of birds including a Pygmy Falcon, Western Siberian Eagle Owl and a white-faced Scops Owl. Many of the children were lucky enough to hold the birds!

Year 6 have spent the week in Normandy, developing their knowledge of history visiting WWII sites and the Bayeux Tapestry. They have also had lots of fun being able to enjoy the sunshine on the beach and learn more about French culture.

On Friday, the girls took part in a Paralympic Roadshow where they were able to learn about and try out a range of disability sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and boccia.

Mr Gary Davis, a wildlife photographer, came to assembly show the Prep School some of his photographs. As an award winning photographer, he explained to the girls how you have to be very patient and often wait hours to get the perfect photograph! He showed a range of photographs taken in South Africa, the Arctic and across the country of large and small animals. Each Prep School pupil was given a postcard of one of his photographs to keep.

Enrichment Week has also involved art, music, games, treasure hunts and much more!

Thank you to all of the staff involved in organising these fantastic opportunities to enrich the girls’ learning.
