The English Schools’ Indoor Snow Championships took place in Manchester on Sunday 14 May, the first time this race has been held since 2012. Races at this time of year are always going to clash with exams, but relaxation can be a good stimulus and time management is an important skill to learn. Some of the schools had their best racers there, whilst some had younger teams. The races were still extremely competitive!
Abbot’s Hill’s young team showed the value of strength in depth as a team – Helena (Year 10), Issie (Year 9), Ina (Year 9) and Sasha (Year 8). All four skied really well, with no weaknesses, and achieved 3rd place – thoroughly deserving the trophies they collected. One of these is now housed inside the Dickinson building and the girls will enjoy seeing it in the cabinet! As it was impossible to hear the times of the racers during the race, their podium placing came as a surprise in the Prizegiving, which in some ways made it even more exciting than normal!
Well done to all the racers this year. Finishing with 3rd place in Manchester and 2nd place at the recent Prep Schools’ races was a deserved reward for their commitment of time and effort.
