It has been such a pleasure to resume engagement more fully with our local community following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
On Monday 4 October, we hosted our Come and Create partnership event, welcoming 60 children from local primary schools to join our three Year 6 classes for a day of creative fun. The theme was ‘Through the Decades’, and the children experienced dance, cooking, drama, art and singing workshops, as well as exploring our woods together.
Alongside this, we hosted a music CPD morning for local primary classroom teachers, sharing the musical expertise and experience of our Deputy Head Prep (Curriculum), Claire Worrell. The morning comprised two sessions, with opportunities to network and discuss music provision in schools. Our training offered a practical guide to teaching music, focusing on activities requiring minimal resources, as well as help with the design and planning of music curriculums and lessons.
An enriching day was had by all, with pupils and teachers from all participating schools thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to learn together and strengthen connections.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Abbot’s Hill staff for organising the event: Sally Kneller, Head of Partnerships, and Katie Reimann, Assistant Head – Co-curricular and Outreach.
“It was wonderful to see so many children making friends and enjoying the creative arts together!” Sally Kneller.
We are looking forward to further community events as part of our exciting partnerships programme.
