Appointment of new Head of Prep

Monday 9 May 2016

Abbot’s Hill School is delighted to announce that Mrs Maria Stephen has been appointed as the school’s new Head of Prep from January 2017 to succeed Kathryn Twinn who has led the Prep School since 2008.

Mrs Stephen has been Deputy Head at Gayhurst School, Gerrards Cross since 2009 where she also leads the teaching of History and she was previously Deputy Head of Charlotte House School in Rickmansworth.  Maria’s professional training was at West Sussex University where she was awarded a B.Ed (Hons) and her career has included working in a range of primary settings in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas.  Maria is married to Johnathon and has three children; she is an avid reader, enjoys the theatres and is a keen sportswoman.

The school attracted a strong field of candidates for this position and the panel was impressed by Maria’s wealth of experience, both in teaching a range of subjects and in various management roles.  We are looking forward to her joining the school in January and feel sure that she has the right combination of skills, knowledge and experience to provide excellent leadership in the Prep School and to support its continued success and development.

Maria comments, ‘I am delighted to be entrusted with the opportunity to lead the Prep school at Abbot’s Hill and am very much looking forward to getting to know the children, their families and the team of colleagues who define the Abbot’s Hill experience.’

There is plenty of time for a comprehensive hand-over from Miss Twinn in order to ensure a smooth transition before Maria takes up her post in January.  We will provide further information to parents about opportunities to meet her over the next few months when arrangements for these have been finalised.
