Abbot’s Hill School Food: Introducing our Head Chef and Catering Manager

Thursday 12 November 2020

The standard of food at Abbot’s Hill is outstanding! Just ask the pupils.  We spoke to Emily Wheeler-Smith about her role as Head Chef and Catering Manager to find out what inspires her.

What do you do and how long have you worked at Abbot’s Hill?

I am the Head Chef and Catering Manager. I have been in my current role for 8 years but I have worked at Abbot’s Hill for 15 years.

What do you love about working here?

I love being part of Abbot’s Hill School and creating lovely food for all the pupils and staff to enjoy during their busy days.

I also love watching the schools wonderful grounds changing through the seasons of the year and catering for all of the special events that come along with it. For example, making afternoon tea on the front lawn in Summer for Prep Prize giving or cooking Christmas dinner for the whole school in Winter.

What’s the best part of your day?

Lunch time. Getting to see everyone coming together and enjoying their food.

What do you hope pupils take away from your subject?

I hope that the pupils enjoy coming together to enjoy all of the food on offer and that they appreciate all of my hard working catering team that make this possible.
