Senior Netball: From Disney to District Cups

Posted: 1st November 2022

In October, Year 8 & 9 embarked on the long-awaited Netball Tour to Paris, France. Teams Dalmation, Team Pirates (Yr8), Aristocrats and Jedi’s (Yr 9) had a busy first day of matches taking on 15 teams of schools and clubs from all over the UK and one team from Australia. After a busy morning of matches the teams headed for Disneyland where they enjoyed the magical rides and Halloween themed parades.

Day 2 included master classes from various England Netball coaches working on attacking, dodging and defending. The pupils also had the pleasure of having a Q&A with England’s top goal scorer Ella Clark in which she gave them tips and tricks on how to improve their shooting.

On the final day teams were gearing up for the showdown plate matches in which we had all four teams in contested matches putting their newly learning skills to the test. Overall saw Team Dalmatians take 4th place trophy in the showdown plate, Aristocats took 3rd place in the plate final after a close match with a one goal loss in the final quarter. Meanwhile, Jedis and Pirates came through to win top of their groups claiming the first-place trophies for the showdown and plate. After a long day pupils finished with their final night in the Disneyland parks soaking up all that Disney had to offer in the gift shops, meeting characters and going on their favourite rides one last time, before returning to the Davy Crockett Ranch cabins before returning home the following morning.

Pupils had a great experience learning new skills and drills, gaining experience in other positions and being taught from the best and rounding off every day with a trip to Disney to have fun as a team and celebrate. Well done to all that came and played some impressive netball.

This term all netball teams from Years 7 to 11 have had a great start to the season, with more wins than loses! As a school we have played a total of 56 games with lots more to come after Christmas! Years 7, 8, 10 and 11 are all still in the running to win the District Cups, with finals in March.
