World Book Day celebrations

Posted: 3rd March 2022

Happy World Book Day from Abbot’s Hill! At Abbot’s Hill we aim to instil a passion and love of reading so it was fantastic to see so many pupils engaging in book related activities today from our youngest children in the Nursery to Senior pupils combining mental health and fiction characters.

The Nursery staff, yet again, have blown us away with their imaginative group costumes. Having Dobby at Abbot’s Hill certainly was a highlight today…

In Prep and Senior assemblies this morning there were book and author related quizzes. Prep ended their assembly with a character catwalk to show off their creative costumes to the rest of the School.

The Pre Prep learnt about story mapping and pieced together their own fiction stories. Year 3 – 6 virtually welcomed Beverley Naidoo for an online workshop.

Senior pupils had a virtual address from author, feminist and mental health advocate, Holly Bourne. Holly gave an insightful talk about how fiction books and characters can be used to support our own mental health and challenge negative core beliefs we have. Y7 pupils took part in an Art Workshop inspired by Little Miss author and illustrator, Roger Hargreaves. They created their own characters using the Abbot’s Hill values to be authentic, involved, kind, inquisitive and challengers.
