Yesterday Year 7 went on a fantastic trip to Bletchley Park – the ‘Home of the Codebreakers’ and former Government Code & Cypher School during World War Two.
Pupils enjoyed a workshop in which they saw an Enigma Machine in action and used it to devise their own encrypted message. They practiced listening to some Morse code and used the Morse to discover who the spy at Bletchley Park was.
Time was spent exploring the huts that were used by 8,000 staff to give the upper hand to the frontline. Pupils were delighted to discover that over three quarters of those working at Bletchley Park were women and enjoyed viewing a motorcycle that was used by female despatch riders to safely deliver German communication to the teams onsite.
