Fiona, Year 9, achieved a personal best of 9.52m in the triple jump at the Watford Harriers Open Graded meeting in April which puts her third in the country in the Under 15 age group.

Eastern Region Schools' Ski Championships 2012

Abbot's Hill took part in the Eastern Region Schools' Ski Championships at Welwyn on 22 April. As an inaugural event this could be rated a huge success. The entry was amazingly high, with more than 240 racers competing. For some of our girls it was their very first such competition, and at all levels they acquitted themselves very well.

Centenary Gym and Dance Display

Pupils from Year 4 to Year 11 took part in this year's Centenary Gym and Dance Display in the last week of term. The packed programme included rhythmic gym, trampette work, street and contemporary dance and some original choreography from GCSE students.

Abbot's Hill take on Aldenham!

On Saturday 10 March, Abbot's Hill U14, U15 and 2nd Netball teams visited Aldenham to play their U14, 2nd and 1st team respectively.

The 2nd team played Aldenham's 1st team, with a number of the opposition being old Abbot's Hill pupils which both sides enjoyed very much. Expecting it to be a hard match, the away side prepared well and were ready to go on the first whistle.

U15 National Schools Lacrosse Tournament

Having qualified earlier in the season, the U15 squad were excited to participate in the annual National Schools Lacrosse Tournament on 6 March. With a further 47 schools entered into the tournament, each section comprised 6 teams who would compete for the top two places within their section to then qualify for finals.

Sport Relief 2012

Infant pupils at St Nicks walked one mile around the School grounds for Sport Relief on Friday 23 March. The children were rewarded with stickers from Miss Twinn on their return. The Juniors also took part in a one mile run. Altogether £185 was raised by St Nicks for Sport Relief.

Clan Ski Race 2012

The culmination of the ski season was, as always, the Clan Ski Race. More girls than usual competed in the event this year and it was especially pleasing to see some of the less experienced being brave enough to have a go – and to surprise themselves with what they achieved. For some years now it seems to be the Ski Captain's fate to have a disaster in the Clan Race and sadly for Ellie D this was the case this year. Ellie did, however, produce the fastest time of the day on her second run. Congratulations to overall winner Lauren S – the youngest overall winner for many years.

Bronze for U14 Lacrosse squad

The U14 Lacrosse squad visited Princess Helena College on Wednesday 21 March to take on local schools in the County Tournament. On one of the hottest days of the year, it promised to be an excellent day of Lacrosse.

Netball U13 B team v Aldenham

On Wednesday 7 March, Abbot's Hill host Aldenham U13B team for a friendly fixture.

The match started quickly with both sides gaining and losing possession at regular intervals. Much of the play occurred in the centre of the court, and both teams demonstrated some advanced passing skills and footwork.

Netball U14 v Ashlyns

On Tuesday 6 March Abbot's Hill's U14 team played Ashlyns in the latest round of the County League. The match was an exciting and close-fought affair with both teams demonstrating some excellent skills and team work, and the lead changing between the two sides regularly.

3 Medals for Fiona at Herts County Championships

Fiona, Year 9 competed in the Hertfordshire Indoor Athletics Championships on Sunday 4 March and had a very successful day, winning a medal in each event.

Fiona won gold in the U15 Triple Jump, smashing the previous Herts Championship record, with a final jump of 9.35m which puts her at number 2 in the UK U15 rankings.

Hertfordshire Schools Cross Country Championships

Before half-term, our best cross country runners competed in the Hertfordshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Westminster Lodge, St. Albans. Having had snow that week the ground was hard and icy and the girls had to warm-up well as it was still very cold!

U11 Netball vs Bridgewater

On February 8, Bridgewater U11 team visited Abbot's Hill to play a friendly Netball match against our A and B sides. As a result of the snow both matches were played inside with the A and B teams alternating halves so that each team had a full 20 minutes of play.

The A team got the match underway with some excellent passing and transitioning of the ball down the court. With two goals in the first quarter the Abbot's Hill side were comfortably in control of the game by half time and were able to practise the skills which they have learned in recent weeks.

U11 Netball vs Berkhamsted

Due to poor weather the game was brought inside, enabling the girls to make full use of the Dame Kelly Holmes Sports Hall, for which both players and spectators were very grateful.

After a quick warm-up and recap of tactics, the A squad were ready to play first. The game began with some fierce competition between both sides and despite some solid defending from the Abbot's Hill squad, the opposition were able to score a few goals to put them into the lead at half time.

U1 4 Netball v JFK

The U14 team were ready to face local opposition JFK in the latest round of the District competition. The match was hosted at home with the Sports Hall playing an invaluable part in keeping the fixture playable with the wintery weather looming outside.

On 28 January Abbot's Hill hosted a mini-Lacrosse Tournament for U12 and U13 squads from a wide selection of schools in the Hertfordshire and South London area. Despite the chilly start, the day began well with teams arriving early to warm-up.
