Year 9 Young Engineers compete in Water Rocket Challenge

Wednesday 19 July 2017

On Wednesday 21 June, two teams of Year 9 Young Engineers – the Nebular Nerds and the Aqua Queens – travelled to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington to compete in the annual Water Rocket Challenge. The day was remarkably hot, registering as the hottest day of the year so far!

The teams had made four rockets each which had to be let off and aimed at a target area on the NPL Sports Field. The teams had to select 3 of the rockets to count, gaining points for length of flight and the landing in the target area. They also competed in the ‘Eggstra Challenge’ – successfully launching an egg attached to the rocket and landing it unbroken.

The girls had a great day and out of 24 teams, the teams came in seventh and fifteenth place respectively. They were also awarded a prize for their specially made Abbot’s Hill team t-shirts!

Well done to Zoë, Louisa, Lucy B, Holly, Mia, Jemima, Emma L, Eloise, Samantha, Alex P and Ina.
