On Thursday 28 September, the PE department took the Senior School pupils taking part in the Elite Athlete Programme to the GSA ‘Girls Go Gold’ conference at Wimbledon High School. The event aims to inspire young women to follow their sporting dreams and reach their potential.
The day began with a key note speech from Double Olympic medallist, Helen Glover. Pupils were also able to participate in a variety of practical sessions led by accomplished sports professionals including: Crista Cullen – GB Hockey Olympic Gold Medallist, Frank Lampard – England and Premiership footballer, Karen Pickering – Olympic swimmer and many more!
Pupils also had the opportunity to walk around a sports fair and attend lectures on sports psychology, teamwork and sports nutrition. The day was closed with a Q&A panel with Graham Thorpe, Gillian Lindsay, Frank Lampard, Crista Cullen and Karen Pickering.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their Girls Go Gold experience and learnt a lot about what it takes to be a professional athlete.
